FDB Releases Canadian French Drug Knowledge

FDB MedKnowledge? Canada, the most widely used drug database within healthcare IT applications, is now available in Canadian French

FDB (First Databank), the leading provider of clinical drug knowledge that helps improve medication-related decisions and patient outcomes, today announced the release of FDB MedKnowledge Canada in Canadian French to support the safe use of medications for a variety of healthcare applications. With the French-speaking population across Canada estimated at 22 percent and the province of Quebec at 80 percent, the inclusion of Canadian French is a requirement to support National health IT initiatives that use medication content within information systems serving Quebec and other French speaking regions.

FDB MedKnowledge Canada is the healthcare industry’s most widely used source of drug information utilized at the point of care. Encompassing drugs and natural health products approved by Health Canada, it combines descriptive drug information and unique identifiers with an extensive array of clinical decision support modules. FDB MedKnowledge Canada has helped pharmacists, physicians, nurses and other medical professionals avoid medication errors, prevent adverse drug events, reduce drug-related expenses and improve the quality of patient care.

Consumer-facing medication materials in French such as patient drug leaflets have been available from FDB for many years. This release of FDB Canadian French medication content expands coverage to include drug descriptive information such as drug names, dose forms and routes. Canadian French content for clinical decision support of drug allergy checking, drug-drug interaction and duplicate therapy screening is also available.

“For more than two decades, our Canadian customers have placed their trust in FDB and the medication content we provide for health IT applications,” said Chuck Tuchinda, MD, MBA, president, FDB. “We are pleased to now offer our flagship drug knowledge in Canadian French to support those information system developers who are creating bi-lingual applications to ensure the optimal use of drugs across the healthcare spectrum.”

To learn more about these and other FDB solutions, speak with the FDB staff in booth #1007 at the upcoming eHealth Conference, June 5-8, 2016, in Vancouver, BC.
